iconographic description:
louis-philippe introduces, into the opening of an oven in a wall giving a glimpse of the “du luxembourg” palace, a batch of peers as pancakes. A second rests on a chair. Montalivet brings him a third, while casimir périer makes the dough, helped by soult and barthe who bring him the necessary ingredients. After abolishing the hereditary nature of the peerage on october 10, 1831, the deputies had to establish the terms and conditions for designating peers. On october 18 it was decided that the king could appoint peers only from notables who had held high offices. In order to pass the reform, on november 19, the king appointed 36 life peers who would go in the direction of the latter. No doubt the pl. , dating from november 10, had foreseen the need that the king would have to appoint a batch of peers. Person / character depicted:
soult, nicolas-jean de dieu; louis-philippe i, king of the french; bachasson, marthe camille, count of montalivet; barthe, felix; périer, casimir
