under pouring rain, two men are fishing on the edge of a pond. One, tall and very thin, is sitting and holding the fishing rod. The other, small and pot-bellied, stands under an umbrella. The bait box is placed on the ground. Actor, playwright and designer, henry monnier helped illustrate la comédie humaine. His engravings of administrative morals, and especially his play scenes from bureaucratic life, clearly inspired balzac for his novel la femme supérieure, renamed les employés.
