Portret Katarzyny Gattai Thomatis jako Muzy, Marcello Bacciarelli, ok. 1790-1795

Caterina (katarzyna) gattai, born filipazzi, married tomatis (milan 1747 - warsaw c. 1792), was an italian ballerina, wife of carl alessandro (carol alexander) tomatis (1739-1797), first entrepreneur of the royal public theater in warsaw in 1765-1767; in the 1765/1766 season she was the first dancer of the theater company led by her husband (see łkr 124). In the portrait, her head is decorated with a wreath of laurel leaves given to artists in their honor. The dating of the painting raises some doubts, in the literature it is dated to the years 1780-1785, but due to the hairstyle of the portrayed person, it could have been created in the early 1790s, and perhaps it is an idealized image created after the artist's death. Date: ok. 1790-1795. Dimensions: height: 67.5 cm (26.5 in); width: 55.2 cm (21.7 in). Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: Łazienki Palace. Catherina Gattai Tomatis by M.Bacciarelli (c. 1790-5, Lazienki)
