iconographic description:
genre scene. Exterior scene: paris, architecture. Characters: a crowd has gathered in front of the “nurse office” located at number “18”. While bargaining, an outfitter presents an application to a young woman holding a poodle in her arms and her purse and her young child in the other hand. A nanny approaches to submit her application but the child tells her that she must give it to her mother. A woman in a car hands her sleeping child to a nanny. A man appears to be looking for a nanny. Another man invites two nurses, one of whom is holding an infant, to follow her, certainly considering the candidacy of one of the two women. Another nurse, near the entrance to the office, is also holding an infant. One of her colleagues speaks to the porter at the nanny's office as indicated on the sign "speak to / to / porter". A poster is stuck on the wall of the nanny's office "avis". Next to it is a café on which is written “all sortes / d’eaus / devie, cognac” and on a poster “double beer / de mars”. In front stand other nurses to whom men are courting while another prepares a drink. Above the establishment is “guide”. A window in the background reads “contact for guides”. Early 19th century fashion, headdresses and hats. Acquisition mode: unknown acquisition mode
