The photograph shows a fragment of jan matejko's bedroom in his house at ul. Floriańska in krakow. The interior shown is a fragment of the oldest museum exhibition created after the artist's death in his family home. The first two rooms, i. E. The living room and the bedrooms, were partially made available to the public in 1896. The biographical museum, initially covering the first floor, was inaugurated in 1898. The bedroom is a special place - the room where the artist died on november 1, 1893. Among the souvenirs and objects belonging to the artist visible in the photograph, his bed, bedside table and chair are noteworthy. This equipment was in this room at the time of the artist's death, as his personal secretary, marian gorzkowski, wrote in his memoirs. A centrally located glass case placed on a table covered with a patterned tapestry contains jan matejko's death mask. The documentary photograph was taken by an unknown author (no signatures or trademarks of the plant), probably at the end of the 19th century. It is a valuable source of information important for research on the history of the first biographical museum in poland dedicated to the life and work of the artist. (agnieszka zagrajek).
