The collection of images of the municipal fund of reus preserves two photographs by the french painter and photographer eugène appert (1830-1891). In 1871 eugène appert published "the crimes of the commune", a series of nine photographs with scenes of the events that happened with the declaration of paris as an independent commune, after the defeat of france in the franco-prussian war and the fall of napoleon iii. These two photographs show the execution of hostages of the paris commune on the walls of the grand roquette prison, on may 24, 1871. The images, however, are a photomontage that recreates the events with the help of a large number of actors who interpret the scenes. Appert used the photograph to demonstrate the bloodthirsty actions of the rebels.
