Ptolemy cameo, Vienna, bw photograph, ca. 1900, 31 December 1900

Ptolemy cameo, 115 x 113 mm, c. 278 bc, showing ptolemaios ii and his sister and wife arsinoë ii (date and identification is suject of ongoing discussion). The stone was a jewel on the shrine of the three magis in the cologne cathedral. After its theft in 1574, the stone went through numerous hands and finally arrived in the kunsthistorisches museum in vienna. Date: 31 December 1900.
