inscribed by the artist 'indefatigable' , lower left. At the battle of jutland on 31 may 1916 the 'indefatigable' was hit by successive salvos of 11-inch shells from the german battle-cruiser 'von der tann' at 16. 02-16. 03 and blew up with the loss of 1017 officers and men.
