HMS 'Australia'- bow view, alongside a quay RMG PV2749, William Lionel Wyllie, early 1918

Hms 'australia': bow view, alongside a quay the battlecruiser 'australia' was built by john brown & co at clydebank, launched on 25 october 1911 and completed in june 1913. This reasonably accurate drawing shows her as fitted in early 1918, with no foretopmast and an enlarged control top with a rangefinder on the roof. An awning is rigged over her forecastle and brows extend to the quay on the right. She flies the australian flag as a jack and the location is probably portsmouth dockyard. Date: early 1918. Dimensions: 354 mm x 253 mm. Collection: Fine art.
