My dear mum! today is easter, the second holiday again; soon these too will be over. I want to send you my heartfelt greetings again and wish you all the best for the holidays which are now over for you. I had a wonderful easter. We had the day off on good friday, so i went for a walk and to the cinema. On saturday we did hardly anything. And yesterday was wonderful. A real easter day, as wonderful as it can only be in spring. The sky was brilliantly blue and the sun had a power that was simply heavenly. On saturday i ironed my uniform and washed my shirt and cap, you see. On sunday i had a visitor, a little girl from halberstadt came to see me, so my clothes had to be in order. We took a little trip to the area around blankenburg. We climbed the so-called [devil's wall] and had a wonderful view. Date: 10 April 1944.
