Still Life with Pots, Francisco de Zurbarán

Still Life with Pots, Francisco de Zurbarán

Francisco de zurbarán, still life, prado museum, oil on canvas, 46 cm x 84 cm. The painting represents six household utensils: a metal container and three ceramic ones, of which the first (metallic) and the fourth rest on separate plates, and all sit on top of a shelf. The artist delights in representing different textures, shiny or matte on a black background. It uses a very simple arrangement of elements. It is the dark light that makes the figures stand out, but there are no shadows projected between them, so he must have painted each of the objects separately. It is one of the few still lifes by the extremaduran master and, as is usual for him, he focuses on the pleasure of representing the different materials and textures, which he captures with a display of technique. The sobriety of the painting avoids presenting any symbolic meaning. Everything is materiality and stillness. Object Type: painting. Genre: still life. Place of creation: Spain. Dimensions: height: 46 cm (18.1 in) ; width: 84 cm (33 in). Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: Museo del Prado. Jarrón del bodegón de recipientes de Zurbarán
