Illustration by poul steffensen from the danish novel gjøngehøvdingen by carit etlar which takes place during and after the dano-swedish war in 1657-1658. A group of gønger has come together in the hut of svend poulsen, gøngehøvdingen. He suddenly comes home himself together with the swedish captain kernbok at the right. Svend poulsen exposes the arm tam in the middle as a traitor who would have sold him and the other gønger out to kernbok. Svend poulsen then orders the scared tam to leave which he hurry to do. Svend poulsen (app. 1610 - app. 1679) was a real person but the story is fiction. The look of svend poulsen is also fantasy as there is no known portraits of him. Date: Original illustration from the 1890s, here reprint from 1909..
