The figure of christ can be found in rubens' painting "baptism of christ" in the antwerp museum (kdk, 192, p. 14) and in a pencil square drawing in the cabinet des dessins in the louvre attributed to rubens (burchard and d'hulst, 1963, cat. No. 29). The painting was commissioned for s. Trinità in mantova and was completed before 26 may 1605; so that the drawing can be dated to 1604-1605. Panneels no doubt copied the drawing. He reused the figure in a slightly altered pose in the etching "baptism of christ" (hollstein, vol. Xv, p. 113, no. 7). Object Type: drawing. Dimensions: height: 277 mm (10.90 in); width: 115 mm (4.52 in). Medium: black chalk, paper, pen and brown ink. Collection: Statens Museum for Kunst.
