"portrait of countess silvia collato
it is a flemish school portrait of countess silvia collalto, wife of marquis federico gonzaga poviglio. The story that led to the recent discovery of the noblewoman's identity is interesting: the restorations carried out in 2015-16 brought to light a refined cartouche in which the identity of the countess is detailed: she is the daughter of collaltino collalto, a legendary figure of the renaissance, a man of arms and of letters deeply loved by the venetian poet gaspara stampa. Silvia marries the marquis federico gonzaga poviglio, while her younger sister vittoria marries giacomo malvezzi. Evidently, the portrait comes to dozza from the malvezzi inheritance. It is curious to observe how the writing indicating the character's identity had been deliberately covered by heavy paint and the character had been given the identity of paola bentivoglio (as in the inventories).
