French soldiers advance from the left, zouaves from the left foreground, crossing the ditch and engaging russian soldiers in hand-to-hand combat on the right. This was published on 22 october 1855, less than two months after the battle, which is about as contemporary to the event as mass-reproduced colour images got at the time. Date: 1855.
