16th century painting on oak wood attributed to the royal painter of d. Manuel i and d. João iii, gregório lopes (1490-1550) or to one of his disciples from the lisbon workshop. The virgin, leaving the cot, seated on a growing lunar cap and with folded hands, is elevated to the heavens. Recurring in the theme during the first half of the 16th century, several angels witness the scene playing various musical instruments, both loud music - charamelas, sacabuxa and bombarda - and low music instruments - lute and fiddle. Properly grouped, we can still observe a group of singing angels holding an open book with traces of musical notation. Object Type: painting. Genre: religious art. Date: 16th century. Depicted People: Virgin Mary. Collection: National Museum of Music. Assunção da Virgem ladeada de anjos músicos
