Sangarius Bridge. Drawing 01, 1838

View from the west across the late roman sangarius bridge, turkey, according to a drawing from 1838. The just under 430 m long structure was constructed between ca. 559–562 by the roman emperor justinian at the site of a pontoon bridge. The triumphal arch in the foreground has disappeared today. Date: 1838.
