Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (1938-09-18) letter date (1938-10-02) next letter (1938-10-17) dietrichsroda, 2nd october 1938 dear parents! first of all, i send you my warmest greetings and kisses. You've probably been waiting for a letter from me for a long time. Received the letter on monday and the card today. Only got around to writing today. - today is thanksgiving and it was very nice. Got a pair of trousers and 5 rm is pretty good. In the morning i was in the local protestant church. Then we had a big meal. And afterwards there were presents. Karl has only received a pair of trousers so far. We're harvesting potatoes now. Poor back. You have no idea how much it hurts. Because all day long, bending over, nothing but bending over. But thank god we have good weather. That is always the main thing. - what pleases us most of all, as rural servants, is that there is peace [and hopefully it will remain so]. Date: 2 October 1938.
