Plan of Berlin - Hildner, under the Direction of GF Schmidt, Academy of Sciences, Georg Friedrich Schmidt, 1750
The plan was drawn up after a new survey of berlin was completed in 1747 and is considered to be an extremely reliable source. The title is framed in a very artistic allegory by the engraver georg friedrich schmidt on the lower left sheet. According to jacoby, the map itself was engraved by friedrich gottlieb berger. Below the plan is a "prospect of the city of berlin from south to north" and three other views. This copy is a 1750 corrected version of the original edition of 1748; it can only be recognized by various pasted-over areas. The following were corrected: the octagon (the friedrichstadt churchyard was added in front of the potsdam gate) the prince heinrich palace surroundings of the invalidenhaus (gardens added later) the area between bastions 12 and 13 the (old) friedrichsbrücke (later also called herkulesbrücke) area of the bastions 6 and 7 near neukölln later (presumably in the 19th century) a new edition was published in which the pasted over areas on the printing plates were changed.
