"in 1903, zorn acquired a 16th-century loft and set it up next to the old studio at zorngården. He now had a completely new fund of lighting possibilities, which proved to have the ability to captivate him over the years. A small four-pass window in the outer wall and the secondary light from the hallway were the only sources of light. There was no fireplace, nor did he arrange skylights there. All paintings in whose name the loft or the loft bed may have been painted there, and it is with the concentrated rays of light from the four-pane window that he brings out the flickering light in morning. "
the above is a quote from anders zorn's biographer gerda boëthius and shows several aspects of zorn's artistry. We see here how he cherishes and loves the historical heritage of his hometown when he starts to establish gammelgården and takes advantage of historic buildings in his hometown. And just like throughout his career as an artist, for zorn it is about challenging and developing his technique, which means that he creates different lighting problems for himself which he masterfully manages to solve through his creative power and talent. The present catalog number is no exception where the light falls on the side of the model and illuminates the entire subject. The model we meet in the catalog number, örjas ida, was portrayed by zorn for the first time in the portal work red sand (1903) where he writes the following about his model: "a young filly from utmeland, örjas ida 17 years old, very plump and white with a healthy peasant face and extremely healthy joints". On a visit to gammelstugan's studio, we can still see the original stump chair on which the model sits. With its polished surface, even a simple everyday object becomes as important a source of reflection as the waters of dalarö and the bosphorus for the artist. Object Type: painting. Date: 1905.
