The Morgue in 1830, from a lithograph of the time, Theodor Josef Hubert Hoffbauer, between 1875 and 1882
Located on the seine in an historic spot that was first the site of ancient gallo-roman architecture remnants and later of the grande-orberie, the morgue is situated in a building that during the 18th century was home to the largest butcher's shop of the marché-neuf. It became a morgue by government ordonnance in 1804, but was so run-down by 1836 that the entire building had to be renovated. Date: between 1875 and 1882. Dimensions: 10 x 11 cm. Medium: lithograph. Collection: Brown University Library. La Morgue en 1830, d'après une lithographie de l'époque
