38. 1 x 63. 8cm (15 x 25 1/8in). The paddle steamship "express" was built in 1847 by ditchburn & mare, blackwall for the new south western steam packet company's southampton-channel islands service; later transferred to weymouth-channel islands-france route. At 07:00 on 20 september 1859, shortly after leaving st helier, jersey for guernsey and weymouth, she struck the grunes houillières rocks and was beached on the corbière coast. 180 survivors landed safely; three jumped overboard and were drowned. Date: September 1859.
