born in 1868, solon h. Borglum was an american sculptor whose creations reflected a nostalgia for frontier life. His depictions of cowboys and native americans were also displayed at the louisiana purchase exposition in 1904 and the panama-pacific world's exposition in 1915. The lewis and clark exposition was hosted by the city of portland from june 1 to october 15, 1905. Covering over 400 acres, the fair showcased exhibits from various nations and states, and it promoted the economic potential of the pacific northwest region.
