Wladimir swertschkoff's painting of the battle of lappohja on may 19, 1854, which was the first battle of the crimean war fought on the territory of finland. After the english fleet arrived in the gulf of pohjanpitäjän near lappohja, the men of the finnish grenadier battalion shot the crew of the reconnaissance boat and prevented the landing. The painting was commissioned for the helsinki imperial palace (now the presidential palace), from where it was transferred to the national museum of finland in 1928. Object Type: painting.
