On 11th september 1854 out-of-date russian ships were flooded. Thus access to the sevastopol bay to enemy fleet was blocked. This dramatic situation is part of the defense of sevastopol (1854–1855). The monument to flooded ships has been built in 1905 in sevastopol. The sculptor of tihs monument is amandus adamson.
