[braunschweig] august 29, 1942. Soldier h. Koch, 2nd corps, braunschweig. My dear mum! today i picked up your lovely package. Yes, tell me, dear mum, what were you thinking? i thought i was seeing things when the 20 marks fell into my hands. I must honestly say that i was very, very happy about it. But mum, you need the money yourself. You're having to work really hard to earn it now. Thank you very much for the cigarettes, gingerbread and sugar too. Please take money from me if you need it. I can't use up the money that you have to work so hard for. You've probably already received my letter with the pictures? we went on a march today, 30 km, it was really nice. The march home was especially nice, we marched with music. Date: 29 August 1942.
