description:
fragment of the edge of a sarcophagus decorated with incised decoration. Iconographic description:
between two geometric garlands, four warriors are represented walking towards the right, dressed in a sort of short loincloth held at the waist by a wide belt, one end of the loincloth falling in a point; the fabric is decorated with fringes and check patterns; the apparently bare torso is crossed diagonally by a band, perhaps a garment hiding the left shoulder or a shoulder strap; they wear a broad, rather pointed beard, with hair reaching up at the back; each is armed with a bow, a shield, a dagger or a knife. To their right, walking in front of them, a man is dressed in a long dress covering the left shoulder, the fabric of which shows a pattern of vertical stripes at the top; hairstyle similar to the others, he wears a sword at his waist. To their left, a sixth man with a silhouette bent more forward walks in the opposite direction; he is dressed in a double assyrian-type robe with fabric decorated with fringes and a pattern of circles; he probably carried a spear but it is only partially preserved.
