Circle of john de critz portrait of richard knatchbull (1569-1605), three-quarter length, in a black embroidered doublet, with a sword, resting his right hand on a table later inscribed and dated upper left: richard knatchbull esqr. / 1605 / 1. St cousn. To sr norton kt; and later inscribed upper right: æta: 36 oil on canvas; 107. 1 x 84. 1 cm. The sitter was the second son of john knatchbull and his wife anne sheaf. He was first cousin to sir norton knatchbull (see lot 105). He married firstly catherine, daughter of sir thomas boys of barfreston in kent, and secondly anne, daughter of william gibbons. Date: 1605.
