the s. S. Christopher columbus was a whaleback excursion liner designed by alexander mcdougall and built in 1892-1893 in superior, wisconsin by american steel barge company for service to ferry passengers to and from the world's columbian exposition, and later placed in general and excursion service to various ports around the great lakes. This image is of her while sailing. The red stack but white deck suggests the image was taken while owned by the goodrich transportation company, and used in general excursion service, before 1909 when she got yellow decking.
