The caption reads "thorne's anchovies or new 'post' in the union question. The newest candidate for prime minister: now if i could just get this one in, i'd have them all as if in a little box". The image is followed by a verse with the title "thorne's anchovies". One of the stanzas reads:
"wexelsen, ullman and lövland and steen,
´the outstanding forces of the left´,
you who have knowledge in your head and bones
still of the day 'after'-
say, do you want a recreation?
do you want to end a long obstruction?
friends and brothers, take a ´clean´!
taste thorne's anchovies!”
one interpretation is that the new prime minister candidate, on behalf of the king, among other things, seeks to get opposition politicians from the liberal party into the new government formation. Date: 28 July 1897.
