'hms lion in the forth'
signed by the artist and inscribed , as title, lower right. The battlecruiser 'lion' is shown in starboard-bow view, at moorings and with her forward guns trained to starboard. She is wearing the flag of vice-admiral sir william c. Pakenham and she has rangefinder baffles fitted to the foremast, so the date shown has to be 1917.
