Marie de medici (1573-1642), queen of france, regent from 1610 to 1614
description / decortypical ceremonial portrait in the italo-spanish tradition of the end of the 16th century. (see mor, pulzone, sanchez coello, etc. ) with a marked emphasis on monarchical dignity (crown, fleur-de-lis coat, canopy), and thus possibly implying a dating after the death of the king (1610). Painting of uncertain origin, its first mention dating back only to 1815 and its previous history based essentially on the mention, always taken up from chennevières, that sauval (1623-1676), author published in 1724 (t. Ii, p. 38, t. Iii, p. 20), is alone in making, of a marie de médicis by pourbus in the petite galerie du louvre, a pourbus curiously isolated within of a set of portraits of kings and queens of france painted by bunel according to a contract of 1607, especially since sauval speaks of life-size figures flanked by medallions, a completely foreign party to the inv. 1710. Uncertainty also about the great marie de pourbus, coll. Royal, inventoried in 1690 then in 1710 (see engerand), with a counterpart, henri iv, style of bunel (reputed to have disappeared), and too quickly assimilated to the inv. 1710 (guiffrey, michel, etc. ). Could the painting have come from another palace like that of luxembourg which belonged to the queen? Object Type: painting. Genre: portrait. Date: between 1600 and 1625. Dimensions: height: 307 cm (10 ft); width: 186 cm (73.2 in). Medium: oil on canvas. Depicted People: Marie de' Medici. Collection: Louvre Museum. 0 Marie de Médicis - Frans Pourbus le Jeune - Louvre (INV1710) - (1)
