Early lithograph of the aqueduct bridge (potomac river), washington, d. C. This was a wooden canal bridge built in 1843 across the potomac river. It was the first of three bridges built at this site. The chesapeake and ohio canal is seen in the foreground. (note: previously described incorrectly as the washington aqueduct. ). Date: circa 1865.
