Once dry, the cover is lightly scraped at the place to receive the decoration. The outlines of the patterns are then incised into the paste left bare. A slip rich in iron oxide is brushed into the heart of the incised areas. A strip of bare dough, without covering, surrounds each dark pattern which stands out against the satin cream background.
