So-called portrait of charles iii philip, elector palatine (1661-1742), but it’s probably a depiction of james francis edward stuart, prince of wales (1688-1766) with the british order of the thistle. Identification proposed by user ecummenic (talk) based on the comparison with two portraits of the british prince located in the scottish national portrait gallery (see images below) and the absence of physical resemblance with the elector palatine. Object Type: painting. Genre: portrait. Date: between 1700 and 1722. Dimensions: height: 73 cm (28.7 in) ; width: 62 cm (24.4 in). Medium: oil on canvas. Depicted People: Charles III Philip, Elector Palatine, James Francis Edward Stuart, Prince of Wales. Collection: Bucherer collection, Bonn. Adriaen van der Werff 025
