Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (1944-06-25) letter 261 (1944-06-27) next letter (1944-06-30) envelope: front back text quedlingburg, june 27, 1944. My beloved mum! i've just heard the terrible news on the radio that our beloved vienna has been attacked again. Are you well, my mamschl? has anything else happened to us? yesterday morning, when i heard the air report, "strong units approaching the lower danube and styria", i immediately thought they were coming to vienna. Where did they throw it? was it very bad? is the steffel still there? i'm worried, since you, my mum, have to work right on the railway! how terrible this all is. When will it end? now i am somewhat out of danger and not at the front; now our homeland is becoming a front line area. Date: 27 June 1944.
