Roberts was stationed in the ypres sector, just north of the menin road in late autumn 1917. Image: a view down the menin road in the ypres sector of the western front. Two small columns of british troops march along the road, the foremost comprised of men of the royal field artillery. Two ambulance trucks drive ahead of them. Alongside the road to the right is a group of wounded german infantry, standing in front of a road sign showing the way to zillebeke and hellfire corner. In the background to the left two howitzers fire shells simultaneously towards the shell-holed distance. Date: 1917 (First World War).
