"the painting was published as an autograph work by tintoretto by suida (1946), who provided a series of important biographical data on the person depicted. As also indicated by the writing on the base of the column on the left, it is the venetian gentleman lorenzo soranzo who, born in 1519 and died in 1575, held important public offices in the venetian city. In 1553 he was elected treasurer of the municipality and, as the richness of clothing, the portrait was probably painted on that occasion. The same character appears depicted by tintoretto in two paintings, one preserved in the kumsthistorisches museum in vienna, the other in the nantes museum. The tintoretto authorship of the painting in question is not entirely convincing. Even if the mediocre state of conservation prevents a correct reading of the pictorial surface, a certain dryness and dryness of execution suggest an extensive intervention by the workshop. [1].
