Characters: a crowd is gathered in front of the shop of a public writer located at the corner of rue de castiglione and rue saint-honoré, around two peddlers and in front of a shop bearing a sign "riz / au lait". The public writer speaks to the young woman at the head of the line holding a letter while, in the doorway, a one-legged veteran with a cane holds a letter. Among the crowd, we recognize soldiers, a chimney sweep, a merchant holding a basket loaded with fruit and a clothes seller. The latter wears a trade medal on her waist and a pile of clothes on her arm. The woman peddler, who also wears a trade medal, distributes a “program” while her colleague presents the “journal de paris”. In the distance, cars, including one loaded with wood and that of the "blanchis[serie] / de / neuilly", circulate in both directions between rue saint-honoré and place vendôme and passing in front of a "[resta]urateur".
