Wine is a mocker; a man dressed as a fool with a plumed hat, grinning towards the viewer, sticking out his tongue and holding a chamber-pot upside-down over the head of a drunken woman who sits sleeping with her bodice undone and her head on a table to left, resting on her forearm; a lit candle, fallen wine-glass and decanter on the table; an arched opening behind the table with an owl perched on the door open to it; after frans van mieris. 1772 mezzotint.
