Favrile Bowl Vase, ca. 1895-96, circa 1895-96

Iridescent blue, purple and yellow. Free-blown body, depressed sphere in shape, somewhat squared in plan. Heavy, rolled-over rim from squarish opening, drawn irregularly down and attached to applied heavy double threads, accenting four “corners” of body, and diminishing to points, near bottom. Depressed center on underside. Date: circa 1895-96. Dimensions: H x diam.: 6 x 9 cm (2 3/8 x 3 9/16 in.). Medium: blown favrile glass. Collection: Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.
