The experts at bruun rasmussen told us, that this work had for many year been considered a portrait of juel's brother, because of the inscription sammes bror (brother of same). As such it was auctioned from 1930 to 1983. When ellen poulsen made her list of juel's paintings, she gave it no. 26 and had it refer to no. 25 - and both were part of a series of four paintings of the brøndsted family. Still, all is not well, because no. 17 also purports to be a portrait of jørgen madsen brøndsted, and the resemblance between the two is far from striking. Object Type: painting. Date: 1760s. Dimensions: height: 46 cm (18.1 in); width: 39 cm (15.3 in). Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: Unknown. Jens Juel - Portræt af Jørgen Madsen Brøndsted
