alphonsus crater (center) exhibits many of the characteristics of type 3 craters. The most conspicuous characteristics are the fracture pattern and dark vent areas. The text of the report explains type 3 craters:
type 3 craters are partially flooded, but the rims are unbreached by the adjacent mare materials. Most of these craters have, or appear to have, crater floors below the level of the adjacent mare surfaces. Many type 3 craters contain a network of arcuate rifles and radial, grabenlike fractures; occasionally, they contain sinuous rifles. The fracture patterns often suggest general expansion of the crater floor. Photographic data:
