iconographic description:
caricature representing victor hugo standing, holding under his arm his book châtiments (violent indictment against napoleon the little published in 1853 after the coup d'etat) and in the other hand a quill writing "veritas"; knocked to the ground, napoleon iii is represented chained with a ball at his foot, illustrating the poet's victory over the emperor after the fall of the second empire in 1870 and the return to france of victor hugo after 19 years of exile.
