The discovery in the 13th century of underground rock salt deposits in wieliczka (near krakow) was a revolution. After the period of exploitation of salt springs it made it possible to obtain salt by mining methods. In the 14th-15th century, 300 to 350 people worked in wieliczka and the annual salt production represented up to 1/3 of the revenue of the royal treasury. Over the centuries the mine developed very dynamically, reaching a depth of 327 m and 300 km of galleries at the beginning of the 20th century. Today, it remains a unique historical monument in the world, listed as a unesco world heritage site. It has been a tourist spot since the 19th century. For the technical and artistic aspect.
