depiction of the battle known as the "battle of la roche-l'abeille". The protestant camp, occupying the entire left part of the image, is commanded by admiral de coligny who is shown in the center, isolated, sword raised and leading his heavy cavalry towards the enemy camp. The troops of italian arquebusiers on whom the first protestant knights rush are in complete disarray, bypassed on all sides, and the condotierre filippo strozzi sent by the holy see (whose weapons are recognizable on the standards of the horsemen located at the top of the image as well as in the foreground, on the right) is taken prisoner by a few soldiers on foot.
