(number erased) table from the collection of historical paintings of the french revolution (1791-1817). Historical scene, urban landscape, characters. House besieged by a "hungry" crowd, people, thieves. Bags of wheat on a cart. Looting of furniture, books. Religious architecture, funerary monument, facade, body of buildings, pavilions, gate. Repression by the french guard. Historical commentary:
the carnavalet museum has the editions of the historical tables of the french revolution of 1798, 1802 and 1804. The contribution of p. G. Berthault to those of 1791-94 and 1798 is attested. The texts were initially written by abbé fauchet and s. Chamfort (first 26 paintings), edited by prieur, then auber. Cf. A. Chevalier and c. Hould, the revolution through engraving, paris, 2002, p. 14 et seq. The house of saint-lazare, a prison and religious establishment, is emptied by the "brigands", the wine from the cellars, the wheat, the library and the released prisoners. The intervention of the french guard repels the looters. This day is also marked by the training of the national guard. Mode of acquisition: legacy
