museum mark - on the right side, under the portrait, in purple ink: "ville / de / paris" (lugt suppl. 2012c). Legend - under the portrait: "messire nicolas brvlart che(er) marquis de sillery, viscount / de puysieux and de ludes, baron de boursant, lord of berny, son of pierre / brulart president of the inquests, and of marie cauchon, was ambassador in / switzerland in the years 1589, 1595 and 1602. President in the parliament of paris in 1597 / then the following year sent by king henry the great to veruins to negotiate peace, and the year 1604, was made keeper of the seals of france, in 1606, chancellor / of nauarre, and of france in 1607, he returned the seals in 1616, then was restably / in 1623, but he returned them for the last time on january 2, 1624, and died / in his house in sillery on october 11 / in paris with daret auec du roy.
