Portrait of french opera singer gustave-hippolyte roger, in character as raoul in meyerbeer's "les huguenots"; whole-length, standing in front of a fireplace, gesturing towards his lover, valentine, who lies unconscious at his feet; he is wearing a stage costume consisting of a cape, doublet and hose; in the background, right, a balcony with a view of notre-dame cathedral against a background of flames; the scene is set during the massacre of st bartholomew's day. 1853 lithograph, on tint stone.
