iconographic description:
this study was executed by the artist from nature. It is likely that watteau drew this feline in versailles, in the king's menagerie which was, since 1663, regularly stocked with exotic animals. Historical commentary:
the "young leopard stretching" and the sheet on which appear "three studies of a dog" (inv. J 196 a; cf. Burollet, thérèse, 2008, n°101), also by watteau, are brought together on the same old montage. Mode of acquisition: legacy
